Let me know if you’d like the tone to be more formal, playful, or aligned with a specific audience.
If you’re heading to Basel this week, be sure to check out Brent Estabrook in action. Known for his vibrant oil paintings of stuffed animals, he’ll be live painting at the Maddox booth (AM219) on Thursday and Friday.
Estabrook is bringing 12 pieces from his “cRaZy stuFFed aniMAL” series, along with a playful work from his “Quilt!” series titled “A Little Overwhelmed.” This piece reflects the feeling of creative overload and serves as a bit of a self-portrait. Another highlight is “After Party,” full of confetti and celebration, while “I LUV U” stands out as one of his most charming works. He’s also debuting “Adventure Time,” the first piece from the “Quilt!” series to be shown at a fair.
He’ll be painting live from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on both days, likely working on more pieces from the stuffed animal series—possibly even a bear. Estabrook enjoys the energy of live painting, as it sparks creativity for both him and the audience. It’s a unique opportunity to witness the artistic process up close. He also loves chatting with visitors about their own passions and soaking in the excitement of the event.
Interestingly, Estabrook holds a Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Louisville, earned in 2014. Though licensed in California, he never practiced dentistry. Instead, he followed his heart into the art world after making his first major sale around the time of graduation. He says it was one of the best decisions of his life—second only to marrying his wife, Tara. He encourages others to take risks and pursue what they love.
His background in dentistry shows in his art through his clean, organized approach. He sets up his studio with the same precision he would have used in a dental office, a level of detail you’ll notice at Art Miami.
What he loves most about Basel Miami is reconnecting with fellow creatives and meeting new artists. He enjoys hearing their stories and learning about their journeys. And of course, he’s a big fan of the food. Every evening, his wife books a dinner for six, and they end up inviting new friends they’ve met throughout the day. The art at the fair also fuels his inspiration and keeps him motivated to keep creating.
