One of the standout brands joining us for New York Fashion Week is Monaco Colombia, a Los Angeles-based label with a deeply personal backstory. The founder, Danielle Oliver, named the brand after two important parts of her life—her parents met in Monaco, and her father is of Colombian and Nigerian descent. These influences helped shape the identity of the brand.
Danielle’s love for fashion started when she was young. Her grandmother couldn’t always afford the clothes she wanted, so Danielle learned to get creative with what she had. In her twenties, she landed her first job in a garment factory, which sparked her interest in design and pushed her to explore her own creative path.
With 25 years of experience in the fashion industry, Danielle has worked with major names like True Religion, Seven Jeans, and BCBG, taking on roles in production, fabric sourcing, and design. One of her earliest fashion memories goes back to middle school, when she was voted best dressed in the yearbook—a moment that stuck with her.
At this year’s show, Monaco Colombia will present a collection that blends relaxed, oversized silhouettes with timeless pieces. Danielle draws inspiration from both Colombian and European cultures, aiming to deliver a fresh, bold look through innovative and high-quality designs.
The brand is especially excited to be part of the event because of the way Fashion Bomb Daily has uplifted the African American fashion community. Danielle admires Claire’s journey—from sneaking into shows to now sitting front row—and appreciates the platform she’s built for Black designers.
