With September approaching, Architectural Digest is rolling out its highly anticipated annual Style issue. This edition highlights Eva Chen, a popular figure on Instagram, as she opens the doors to her newly renovated country home in Connecticut.
Though she’s always been a city person, Eva and her husband, Tom Bannister—a creative director in advertising—have started embracing slower-paced weekends since discovering their perfect getaway home in the summer of 2020. Throughout the renovation, Eva kept her 1.7 million Instagram followers updated on the progress.
In charge of fashion and shopping partnerships at Instagram, Eva reached out to the design firm Hendricks Churchill through a direct message. Led by Heide Hendricks and Rafe Churchill, the team transformed the 2,800-square-foot house by knocking down walls, converting the garage into a bedroom, and updating the windows.
The finished space feels warm and elegant, yet still relaxed and livable. The designers also helped furnish the home, creating inviting play areas and cozy corners for Eva’s children, Ren and Tao. The family recently grew with the arrival of a new baby, River.
Furniture and decor were thoughtfully chosen from a mix of sources, including Plain English, ABC Carpet & Home, Apparatus, and a variety of antiques found through estate sales, private collections, Etsy, and 1stDibs.
